First and foremost, remember that secure email = 2 things. Encryption over the Internet and a Password to open each message. Zix does the encryption for us all, but the recipient needs to SET UP THEIR OWN PASSWORD.
Zix manages the Large Directory of users and their associated passwords for all users. If you want to open up 12 messages from Zix, you have to enter your password (same password) 12 times, in this example.
1.) Recognizing the importance of email communications, and the need to
secure communications containing confidential information, xDefenders & ZixCorp
offer a secure channel for exchanging confidential information via the
Internet. Zix is a two-way email encryption solution,
eliminates the need for specialized software or the complicated "key
exchange" process. All you need is an Internet connection, a web
browser that supports 128-bit SSL encryption, and a Zix eMail
account.
2.) By itself, Internet email is an insecure communications channel.
Messages sent via standard Internet email travel in "plain text" and
cross many networks before reaching their final destination. As a
result, an opportunity exists for prying eyes to eavesdrop on email
messages as they traverse these various networks. Since confidentiality
cannot be guaranteed, standard Internet email should not be used to
exchange sensitive or private information such as social security
numbers, bank account numbers, financial statements, health care details, etc.
3.) When a Bank or Health Care Provider (for example) sends you a secure email message, the message is sent to
the ZixCorp secure data center (or your inbox) where it will be held for you to retrieve (opened). At the
same time, a notification message is sent to you to inform you that a Zix Secure eMail message is waiting to be retrieved (or opened). The notification
message will contain a link (or attachment) to a secure web site. Simply click on the
link (or attachment), log into the secure web site with your Zix password, and retrieve your message.
4.) The first time you use Zix Secure Mail, you will be prompted to
create an account. Supply your email address and password to establish
your account. You will use this password each time you log into Zix Secure Mail. A confirmation message will be sent to the email address
you entered. You will need to click the link in the confirmation email
to complete the account set up process. You can now begin using your
Zix Secure Mail account.
5.) When the Bank or Health Care Provider sends you a secure email message, you will receive a
notification message via standard Internet email. Click the link
(or attachment) contained in the notification message to be taken to the login screen
where you will be prompted to enter your email address and password
that you established. Once logged in, you can read your Zix Secure Mail, download it to your computer, or send a secure reply
message, even with an attachment.
6.) To send a Zix Secure Mail message to the xDefenders, click on the "Secure eMail" button on the front page of the xDefenders web site. You will be taken to the login
screen where you will be prompted to enter your email address and
password that you established. Once logged in, you can create a new Zix Secure Mail message to xDefenders by clicking on the "Compose" tab.
